this has gotta be one of the most special years in my life yet.

THE HIGHEST CALLING! national service! i remember vividly how we all kinda know our enlistment date on just another mugging day in reading room back in hwach. and how A levels and post-Alevels flew by.

NS taught me quite a fair bit of lessons that i'm pretty sure would aid me in post-ORD life:

#1. camaraderie and the value of friends. they always say the best of friends are those who went through shit together. that says alot about my bmt, service term and proterm mates aint it? like i've mentioned many times this year, there are many people i've met this yr that i really want to be in touch with for the rest of my life.

#2. suck it up! some things just won't go your way, and there really isn't much that you can do about it. LLST!!

#3. you are more capable than you think you are. and there just isn't a definite limit for your mental capacity. stretch them again and again to break that limit. like what my pc and apc told me during social night, once you feel that you have broken that limit, you have already succeeded.

#4. be true to yourself and everyone around you. because if you are not, it will show. nobody likes those who are fake, superficial and patronizing no? too bad there are so many of them amongst us.

#5. KINSHIP! it was only during the time in bmt when i was so homesick that i really pondered about what kinship meant to me. and it dawned upon me that i dont have to see my family everyday just to be close to them. it's about how they all seem to be able to pick up with my life every bookout as though i've been with them just the day before.

#6. leadership. thanks to OCS, i think it provided me yet another opportunity to manage people, something that i am not unfamiliar with. as i look forward to my appt as a PC, i reflected on what kind of a leader i was back in school and the many aspects that i could have done better. i wont say im 100% ready, but neither would i back out in fear -- because likened to what LTC Loong told us, we are damn bloody ready.

as we commission and move on with our own officership tour, i think this is one year that i will always remember -- the year where i laid my basics, built my network and capabilities upon and the year where i waited and waited and waited and waited and waited.

this movie has gotta be one of the best i've watched.
simple but extremely poignant, best of all it's something many people can relate to.

best scene imo?the wedding march-in.
despite the smiles and glamour, what's more evident was the regret and could've beens as he watched his girl march down the aisle.of course, not to forget the awesome song that made it all the more heart-wrenching.

starlight was tougher than expected, but yet it was more fulfilling than expected as well.

i shall not be extremely verbose about my experience, but to sum it all up:

#1. learnt so much more. extremely thankful (despite the stress and fatigue) for having the chance to be the first bso for virgo. benlow was up ttm and i guess it constantly served as a note to self that i ought to be as up as well.

#2. loved all the exercises actually.

#3. platoon mates and closer friends honestly made this whole trip 3952385923859237823x more worthwhile than it would be. in retrospect, i never knew i could click with this group of people after making the transition from delta to socc. uh uh changed my mind! another grp of awesome people i'll want to stay in contact for a long long long time ;)

#4. JUSTINBAY i hope you get a sword! rly appreciate your take-it-slow mentality, especially when you understood that your nsf team had suffered a few casualties. it made my spitfire experience less painful than it already was :)

#5. r&r should totally be chillax. the last day was a good example. heh x)

alright so we're back in sg and back to proterm in SI!

so week by week it goes.
it's pretty sad to realise that my life has been reduced to such a state where i am thrilled to be going home on fridays. as well as getting a bowl of dessert for meals. and even mobile canteen breaks. :( such is life.

the past month has been rather exciting!

met up with primary school friends, painted the mural, settled all the irritating minute details for cmo, ran at werunsg10k, got the much coveted csb badge woohoo!

many would choose to end such posts with a picture, but let me begin with one instead.

NS is something i've never experienced before, so this kind of feeling is definitely not one of those post-touch-and-go-school-events type of feeling. it saddens me so much that i'm gonna be parting with this bunch of awesome people whom i've spent 14 weeks with.

nobody will understand what we went through besides ourselves, and as i reminisce on all the centipede rhino cougar scorpionking and whatnot, this is something i've come to understand very vividly:

nothings gonna remain constant for us officers (to be). we get posted somewhere, we settle down and then we leave. but that should not stop us from making the most out of these short stints. the 14weeks i had in delta wing taught me bulk of what i've learnt for the entire of this year, and i've met people whom i want to remain as brothers for life. in other words, it really isn't about the duration you spend somewhere or with somebody, but more of the quality and depth of the relationship whilst it lasted.

that being said, i dearly wished we could have remained in the same vocation but i think theres really a reason for everything.
so all the best for proterm guys!
we will all become fine officers in our vocations in time to come.

undoubtedly, this is the fastest month yet! i'm always rushing, running out of time, clearing things as they were just about to hit me straight in the face. TIRED of such a lifestyle no? pretty much. but i have resigned to my fate that this will be my life for at least a year or more. after which i will change a lifestyle and lead a new life from then. and the cycle repeats.

whatever the case, you've only got one freaking chance to own and live this life. as much as i whine and whine and whine about the negativities of conscription and whatnot, i do honestly want to take away as much as i can from this short stint. yea, short stint. with cpt chin's heartfelt HTHT session last night lingering in my mind, i am reminded of my character of the past: just really going all out to get the grades, not knowing the reason why. i'm glad my life did not revolve all around mugging for the grades (it hardly was lah lol).

Time actually flies! It's the SIXTH week in OCS already (and it's gonna end soon, thanks to ATT C) and when i get out of TEKONG it will be 8 weeks down baby! (not to mention halfway through service term). MAY MY BUDDY AND I GO NEESOON AND STAGMONT RESPECTIVELY.

Much as I kinda like the company in BMT/OCS, it's really the company in HC that I miss the most. Be it classmates, fac comm mates or council mates.. just really miss the 4pms at classbench doing (nothing) homework/talking cock/walking to scamtank to buy meiji yoghurt. Of course not to mention the epic lectures/tutorials we've had, the insane amount of work we did and all the worksessions!

In a nutshell, I MISS HWACHONG AND BEING A STUDENT IN HWACHONG. RAWR.

yea, so im not giving up at all, IN SPITE OF the lethargy and boredom.
and responsibilities will make me a responsible person, no?

im KINDA disappointed over the rejection of a certain coveted scholarship, but really i have to keep reminding myself that it aint the end of the world not to get it. although i do have a huge interest in that particular field, i think i will still be able to get in even without the express entry pass.

conclusion? i will study hard and get my desired course in uni.

on a lighter note, taking 2 years off to contemplate deeply about my purpose and direction in life aint that bad after all. i don't want to start uni in a haste and only to realise the entanglement shortly after. hence, when december 2012 (the most awesome month in my life) comes, GET READY TO MEET the most mature side of me ever.

POLITICAL SCIENCE HERE WE GO!

let's talk about A levels shall we?
to be very honest, i wasn't happy with my results lol D:
especially when it's about the 2 subjects i threw in 2395289523748923723x effort in.

but after spending another month in a tranquil, picturesque and serene haven, those pensive nights got me to realign my thoughts:
#1: i wasnt happy, but neither was i sad. hence, let's take it as it is.
#2: daddy texted me saying, be optimistic and think positively, the result is really secondary. indeed, i reckon i wouldn't be any happier or richer in any ways even with the straight As. in fact, im happy with how things are falling in place right now~
#3: be contented. this pretty much is a given.

so looking on the brighter side, i'm thankful and pleasantly surprised with the grades for economics and pharmchem. and of course not letting dofu and the 22m bomb jeopardise 2 years of confidence.

WHAT LIES AHEAD THEN?
conscription, and off i go to nus fass!
im pretty much decided on political science, so no more overseas uni!

it really has been yet another hell of a year since the night i sat outside reading room to have the first minute to myself. this year's first minute will be spent alone again i reckon! the uncertainty of the immediate year to come, coupled with the small bits of good news here and there, really did gave me fervour to look forward to an exciting 365days.

like what i typed in my final blogpost on learnet, i truly believe everyone has no limits because we can stretch them further and further time and again.

i wouldnt say bmt has completely changed me, but it has definitely toughened me, physically and especially mentally. i was probably never a person with a weak mental capacity, but i have been on the verge a few times during bmt. about to give up, but no, no way im going to fall out. NOWAYZ.

and of course one quote we will remember for life?

im probably going to miss my section mates, getting tekaned together as a platoon and becoming stronger thereafter, the crazy sub-4min send arms/draw arms challenge, certain sergeants and maybe even the aeroplanes. what lies ahead is yet another uncertainty, but life is always about dealing with uncertainties. so come what may, just PRESS ON.
